Homeless Education Assistance
Tempe Elementary Schools serves students who are considered homeless under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The Act ensures that each child of a homeless individual and each homeless youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, as provided to other children and youths.
Your school-aged children may qualify for certain rights and protections under the federal McKinney-Vento Act if your family lives in any of the following situations:
- In a shelter, motel, vehicle, bus or train station
- On the street, park, campground
- In an abandoned building, trailer, or other inadequate accommodation, or
- Doubled up with friends or relatives because you cannot find or afford housing
For assistance, please contact Tempe Elementary Schools' Homeless Liaison, Alexis Saspe at (480) 730-7482 or by email.
